Green Deal and Energy efficient boilers

The Government launched the Green Deal in October 2012 and even though it's been pulled last year, it's now back out again.

Gas fired condensing boilers will help in getting Britain’s old housing stock up to scratch. If you've got an old boiler then chances are it's using up more gas than it's meant to. Sure you'd love a new boiler, but you might think it's not affordable?

So what about Green Deal? It allows you to make their homes and businesses more energy efficient, i.e. heating and insulation measures to improve the way their properties are heated and insulated with no upfront cost

What’s the fuss about condensing boilers?

Your boiler can be generating at least 50% of your yearly energy bills. However, new condensing boilers are key to cutting your central heating bills. Sure if you’ve had your boiler for more than 15 years then it won't be all that efficient. By optimising your central heating system, replacing an old boiler with an A-rated condensing model you'll be able to reduce your annual heating bills!!

Can I really get a one of these new boilers with Green Deal?

Yes you can - you need the Green Deal Home Improvement Fund. How do I get started ? To get started with Green Deal, the first thing you need to do, is to get an assessment carried out. This is easy to arrange and is best booked-in early, as demand for Green Deal is big - so it's important not to miss out. Finding a Green Deal assessor / provider is a good idea, but speaking to proven reliable and trustworthy Green Deal specialists like STL Heating is highly recommended.

How will I pay for my new energy efficient boiler?

It's easy as there’s no upfront cost, money to pay for the work is taken from the Green Deal Finance Company, which is a private consortium set up to support the scheme. You pay off the loan through savings on your energy bills. The Green Deal is governed by the ‘Golden Rule ‘ which means any savings on your bills estimated to be achievable through recommended home improvements must be more or at the very least equal too than what it will cost you to have the work done.

Get cash back on a new boiler

From June 2014 you’ll be able to apply for cash back if you’re installing a new boiler under the Green Deal. The Government has set up the Green Deal Home Improvement Fund, with up to £1,600 cash back on offer, comprising of:
  • Up to £1,000 if you install a new gas condensing boiler, together with one additional home improvement measure, such as cavity wall insulation, replacement doors, floor insulation, double glazing or secondary double glazing.
  • Up to £500 if you carry out these home improvements within a year of moving into a new home.
  • Up to £100 towards the cost of the Green Deal assessment.
Whilst the Green Deal scheme had shut down earlier on last year after households grabbed all of the available £120m. Good news for home owners - the Green Deal is now back - though, for a limited time.
